Verdict

paypa1.com is a PayPal look-alike domain that has been documented in phishing campaigns, even though it currently just forwards to the real paypal.com

The address uses the digit 1 in place of the letter l so it reads as paypal.com at a glance. Independent sources describe it as a phishing domain: a Microsoft blog post asks whether www.paypa1.com would fool you into thinking it was www.paypal.com and quotes a reader who received emails from it asking for a real PayPal credit card number, a LinkedIn write-up describes look-alike domains such as paypa1.com hosting pages that replicated PayPal's design, and a Tencent Cloud article names the same digit-for-letter trick. A saved antivirus aggregate also carries 11 adverse engine families. Today the address itself serves nothing of its own: it redirects to https://www.paypal.com/, and the page we reviewed is PayPal's genuine home page with its own navigation and marketing links. That redirect is why the score sits in the High Risk band rather than lower: the name is built to deceive, and the safe-looking landing depends entirely on where the redirect sends each visitor.

Do not log in, enter card details or click through to a payment page from a link that uses paypa1.com, even though it currently forwards to the real PayPal site. Reach PayPal by typing paypal.com yourself or by using its app, and treat any email or message that sends you to paypa1.com as a phishing attempt.

Lost money or shared details on paypa1.com? Do this now

Act quickly: the first hours matter most for a chargeback.

  1. Call your bank or card issuer now

Ask them to dispute the charge or open a chargeback; the sooner you act, the better your odds. Card payments can often be reversed. Bank transfers and gift cards are harder, but report them to your bank too. Crypto payments usually cannot be reversed: report the wallet address and transaction ID to the exchange you sent from.

  2. Change any password you entered

If you entered a password on paypa1.com, change it there and anywhere you reused it, and turn on two-factor authentication. Keep screenshots, order confirmations and messages as evidence.

  3. Report the site

Reports help get scam sites taken down faster and warn other people.

  4. Report the domain to its registrar

MarkMonitor Inc. takes abuse reports at abusecomplaints@markmonitor.com (+1.2086851750). Include the address and what happened.

  5. Ignore anyone offering to recover your money

"Recovery" services or agents who contact you, or ask for a fee up front, are almost always a second scam aimed at victims. Your bank's dispute process and the official reporting services never charge a fee in advance.

01 · Investigation Brief

Investigation Brief

A name built to be misread, with a documented phishing history

paypa1.com differs from the real brand only by swapping the letter l for the digit 1, which is the classic way to make a link look right in an email or message. The Microsoft archived blog post on the domain frames it exactly that way, and a reader quoted there says paypa1 has been sending emails to obtain a real PayPal credit card number.

Two further write-ups treat the domain as part of PayPal phishing activity: a LinkedIn post describes links to similar domains such as paypa1.com with pages that replicated PayPal's exact design, and a Tencent Cloud article lists paypa1.com as an example of a domain that is extremely similar to PayPal's. An independent site-rating service's listing also records the name in a suspect-domain feed.

A saved antivirus aggregate shows 11 engine families reporting an adverse result for the domain, including phishing and financial-data categories. That observation is stale rather than a fresh submission, so it confirms the domain has a bad reputation without telling us what it serves this minute.

What a visitor actually gets today

Requesting http://paypa1.com/ sends the browser to https://www.paypal.com/ and then on to the US home page. The screenshot of the final page shows the genuine PayPal home page with the PayPal logo, the Personal, Business, Advertiser and Developer navigation, and Log In and Sign Up buttons, rendered at paypal.com rather than at paypa1.com.

Every commercial link we mapped on that landing page stays on paypal.com: Learn More, Explore Crypto, Get the PayPal app, Sign up for free, Start Shopping and Get the App all point to PayPal's own paths. No affiliate, merchant or payment intermediary appears anywhere in the link graph, and no login or payment form was visible on the rendered page.

Because the address redirects elsewhere, the contact details on the landing page belong to PayPal and were not attributed to paypa1.com. The domain itself is 9510 days old and a domain-registration lookup lists the registrant organization as PayPal Inc., which is consistent with the brand holding its own typo-defensive registration; that does not explain the phishing history or the engine detections attached to the name.

Clean connection checks do not clear the name

The browser threat feed returned no warning, the saved TLS check found a valid encrypted connection, and the hosting IP carries an abuse confidence score of 0 out of 100 across zero saved reports. Those results describe the connection and the current landing host, not the intent behind a look-alike name.

Against that, the saved antivirus aggregate still records 11 adverse engine families for the domain. The two pictures are not contradictory: a domain can be clean to connect to and still be a name that phishing mail relies on, and the redirect we saw may not be what every visitor sees.

Why the score is 38

11 independent antivirus families reported an adverse result. This comes from a saved antivirus observation rather than a new submission, so treat the detection as real but confirm the timing.

Proceed with caution

Our automated review flagged enough risk that you should treat this site as unverified.

  1. Analyst recommendation

Do not log in, enter card details or click through to a payment page from a link that uses paypa1.com, even though it currently forwards to the real PayPal site. Reach PayPal by typing paypal.com yourself or by using its app, and treat any email or message that sends you to paypa1.com as a phishing attempt.

07 · Safety FAQ

Safety FAQ

Answered from the saved verdict and evidence in this report.

Is paypa1.com a scam or a legit website?
paypa1.com looks like a likely phishing site — do not enter your login or personal details. Our review tagged it for phishing and clone site. 13 of 93 security engines flag it (12 as outright malicious). The domain is 26 years old through MarkMonitor Inc. It may not be an outright scam, but the risk is high enough that you should verify it independently before trusting it with money or data.
Is paypa1.com safe to use?
paypa1.com has a Safety Score of 38/100 (High Risk). Analysis coverage is strong at 86%. Avoid login, payment and downloads.
I already paid or entered my details on paypa1.com — what should I do?
If you've already paid or handed over details on paypa1.com, act quickly. 1) Contact your bank or card issuer immediately and ask to dispute the charge or open a chargeback — the sooner you act, the better your odds. 2) Report the site to the U.S. FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov or the FBI's IC3 at ic3.gov, and in the UK to Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk. 3) If you entered a password, change it on paypa1.com and anywhere you reused it, and turn on two-factor authentication. 4) Watch your bank and email for follow-up fraud, and keep screenshots as evidence.
Can I get my money back from paypa1.com?
Often yes, if you act fast. Payments made by credit or debit card can frequently be reversed through a chargeback or dispute — contact your bank right away and explain it was a fraudulent site. Bank transfers and gift-card or voucher payments are much harder to recover, but you should still report them to your bank and to the FTC (reportfraud.ftc.gov) or Action Fraud (actionfraud.police.uk). Avoid any "refund" or "recovery" service that contacts you first — it's usually a follow-up scam.
Did paypa1.com steal my password or personal information?
If you entered anything on paypa1.com, assume it was captured. Phishing pages exist purely to harvest what you type — usernames, passwords, card numbers, or one-time codes. Change the password immediately on the real site and anywhere you reused it, enable two-factor authentication, and if you entered card or banking details, contact your bank about the risk of fraud. Also be alert for follow-up "security" calls or emails that try to exploit the same information.
How do I report paypa1.com?
You can report paypa1.com through several official channels: the U.S. FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at ic3.gov, and — in the UK — Action Fraud at actionfraud.police.uk. You can also flag it to Google Safe Browsing (safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish) so other browsers warn about it, and report it to the company being impersonated if there is one. Reporting helps get scam sites taken down faster.
paypa1.com looks professional — how can it still be a scam?
Modern scams are built to look convincing. A valid SSL padlock, a polished template, stock photos, fake reviews, and a trust badge can all be added in minutes and prove nothing about who runs the site. Scammers buy cheap domains, clone real designs, and copy legal pages wholesale. That's exactly why an automated review that checks the domain's age, hosting, blacklists, and behaviour — rather than just how the page looks — is more reliable than a first impression.
Has paypa1.com been flagged by antivirus engines?
Yes. 13 of 93 antivirus and blocklist engines in our malware network flagged paypa1.com, 12 of them as outright malicious in the saved analysis from November 2, 2026. Even a single detection from a reputable engine is a meaningful warning, and multiple detections rarely happen by accident.
Is paypa1.com on any phishing or malware blacklists?
No — paypa1.com is not currently on the major browser blocklist feeds that Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge rely on. Note that blocklists can lag behind brand-new scam domains, so "not listed" is reassuring but not a guarantee on its own.
How old is the paypa1.com domain?
paypa1.com is 26 years old, registered on October 20, 2000 through MarkMonitor Inc. A multi-year registration history is one of the stronger signals against a scam, though it's never a guarantee on its own — established domains can still be misused.
Does paypa1.com have a valid SSL certificate?
Yes — paypa1.com presents a valid TLSv1.3 certificate issued by DigiCert Inc · DigiCert EV RSA CA G2, valid for another 130 days. A certificate only encrypts the connection; it does not show who runs the site.
How often is the paypa1.com report updated?
This report is a record of the scan run on November 4, 2026, and the verdict reflects that point in time. Scam sites change fast — they can go live, get flagged, or vanish within days — so if you believe something about paypa1.com has changed, MalwareTips staff can run a fresh scan that re-checks every signal from scratch and republishes an updated verdict.
